Fabricio Coloccini is more than just a name to football fans – he’s a symbol of leadership, loyalty and grit. Best remembered as the long-serving captain of Newcastle United, Coloccini became a modern club legend at St James’ Park, guiding the Magpies through Premier League battles and European nights with calm authority and unmistakable class.

Before becoming a Toon hero, Coloccini built a remarkable career across Europe and South America. He came through at Boca Juniors, one of Argentina’s most famous clubs, before moving to Europe with spells at AC Milan, Alavés, Atlético Madrid, and Deportivo La Coruña. In 2008, he joined Newcastle United, where he would spend the defining years of his career and earn cult status among the Geordie faithful.

On the international stage, Coloccini represented Argentina, earning dozens of caps and being selected for the 2006 World Cup squad. Known for his aerial strength, positional intelligence and no-nonsense defending, he was a centre-back every fan trusted.

Now retired from professional football, his legacy lives on through the supporters who still chant his name.
