Giuseppe Meazza won the World Cup with Italy in 1934 and 1938 and scored 288 goals for Inter across two separate spells — one of the most celebrated players in Italian football history and the man after whom the San Siro was officially renamed. His contribution to the club and to Italian football was recognised with the naming of the ground that remains the spiritual home of Italian club football.

Meazza’s ability to play as a centre-forward or attacking midfielder, his vision and his consistency across two decades of professional football made him the first genuinely elite Italian player in the modern sense. The stadium that carries his name in Milan is the most fitting monument any player has been given in the history of the sport.
