A Californian Prodigy

The Youngest US Open Champion
His breakthrough was stunning. At the 1990 US Open, aged 19 years and 28 days, he beat Andre Agassi 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 in the final to become the youngest men's champion in the tournament's history.
It was the start of a rivalry with Agassi that would define American tennis for a decade.

King of Wimbledon
Sampras won his first Wimbledon in 1993, the year he first finished as world No. 1. He would stay year-end No. 1 for six straight seasons, from 1993 to 1998. On grass he was close to unbeatable, winning seven titles in eight years between 1993 and 2000.
His 2000 Wimbledon win brought him a 13th major, breaking Roy Emerson's long-standing men's record.

The Perfect Farewell
After two years without a major, many thought his time had passed. Then, at the 2002 US Open, Sampras reached the final and beat Agassi once more, 6-3, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4. It was his 14th Grand Slam title – and the last match of his career.
