Ruud Gullit, Macro Van Basten, Frank Rijkaard AC Milan T-Shirt | Players Couture

Ruud Gullit, Marco van Basten and Frank Rijkaard formed the most celebrated trio of international players at a single club in the history of European football — three Dutch internationals who arrived at AC Milan under Silvio Berlusconi's ownership and helped the club win back-to-back European Cups in 1989 and 1990 alongside two Serie A titles. The combination of Gullit's physical grace, Van Basten's finishing genius and Rijkaard's midfield intelligence gave Arrigo Sacchi the attacking and controlling capability to build one of football's all-time great club sides.

The 1989 European Cup final victory over Steaua Bucharest — 4-0, with Van Basten scoring twice — announced the Dutch connection to Europe as something genuinely special. Gullit's Ballon d'Or in 1987 and Van Basten's in 1988, 1989 and 1992 bookended a period of individual and collective excellence that has rarely been matched at club level. Rijkaard provided the engine and the intelligence without which the attack could not have functioned with such freedom. Together they were exceptional.
