The 1970 Brazil side is the most celebrated football team of all time and Pele was at the centre of it. His third World Cup, at the age of 29, produced a performance of joyful, creative brilliance that set the standard for everything Brazilian football has aspired to since. This Pele 1970 hoodie from Players Couture celebrates the king of football in his finest hour. Fan apparel built around the greatest player in the history of the game and the most beautiful team the World Cup has ever produced.

Pele was born Edson Arantes do Nascimento in Tres Coracoes, Brazil, in 1940. He grew up in poverty in Bauru, Sao Paulo, and came through Santos, making his debut at 15 and his Brazil debut at 16. At just 17 he became a World Cup winner in Sweden in 1958, scoring twice in the final and becoming the youngest winner in tournament history. He won it again in Chile in 1962 before a series of injuries and tournament exits in 1966 disrupted his World Cup story. The 1970 tournament in Mexico was his redemption and his masterpiece.

The 1970 Brazil side played with freedom, flair and creativity that opponents simply could not match. Pele was surrounded by Rivelino, Jairzinho, Tostao and Carlos Alberto in a team built to attack without compromise. They won every match in the tournament, beating Italy 4-1 in the final in one of the great individual and collective performances in World Cup history. Carlos Alberto's fourth goal — created by Pele's perfectly weighted pass and finished with a thunderous first-time strike — is the most celebrated team goal in the tournament's history. Pele was named the best player of the tournament. Brazil kept the Jules Rimet Trophy permanently as three-time winners.

Pele scored 77 goals in 92 international appearances for Brazil and over 1,000 career goals in club football. He passed away in December 2022 at the age of 82, leaving behind a legacy that is inseparable from the history of the sport.
