Miura left Japan for Brazil as a teenager, returned as a star of the new J.League and became the first Japanese winner of the Asian Footballer of the Year award in 1993. Known as King Kazu, he helped give professional football a face in Japan and scored 55 international goals. Still playing for Fukushima United at fifty-nine in 2026, his 42nd professional season extended a record of longevity unmatched in the sport.
