The story behind the name
Rachael Gunn came to competitive breaking in her mid-twenties and became Australia's leading B-girl, winning the 2023 Oceania Breaking Championships to qualify for Paris 2024. She was Australia's first woman to compete in breaking at an Olympic Games. Away from competition, Gunn completed a PhD on the gender politics of Sydney's breaking culture and has worked as an academic, educator and advocate for creativity, inclusion and resilience. Her Olympic performance became a global cultural moment, but her deeper story is one of persistence and commitment to the community behind the dance.
