Archie Gemmill joined Preston North End as a teenager and spent his career at Derby County, Nottingham Forest, Birmingham City and others. His goal against the Netherlands at the 1978 World Cup in Argentina — scored in the 68th minute to make it 3-1 and give Scotland hope of progressing from the group — is rated by Scottish supporters and by neutral observers as the finest individual moment in the history of the Scotland national team.
