Marco Tardelli remains one of the most iconic midfielders in world football. Born in Italy in 1954, he built his playing career with Pisa, Como, Juventus, Internazionale and Swiss side St. Gallen. It was at Juventus where he became a true great, winning five Serie A titles, two Coppa Italia trophies, the UEFA Cup, European Cup Winners’ Cup, European Super Cup and the European Cup. A powerful, intelligent and energetic midfielder, Tardelli was admired for his tackling, stamina, leadership, technical quality and ability to arrive in decisive moments.

For Italy, Tardelli earned 81 caps and scored 6 goals. He represented his country at the 1978 World Cup, the 1982 World Cup and was part of the squad at the 1986 World Cup. His defining moment came in the 1982 World Cup final against West Germany, when he scored Italy’s second goal in a 3-1 victory. His emotional celebration, running with clenched fists and pure passion across his face, became one of the most unforgettable images in World Cup history. For many football fanatics, that moment represents everything great about international football: pride, emotion, pressure, history and glory.
