Alan Shearer Southampton T-Shirt | Players Couture

Alan Shearer scored a hat-trick on his First Division debut for Southampton at the age of 17 — against Arsenal, in front of a full house at The Dell. It was one of the most electric debut performances English football had seen, and it immediately established Shearer as a player the entire country needed to pay attention to. Southampton had found someone special.

Shearer's five years at Southampton were the foundation on which everything else was built. He developed his finishing, his hold-up play and his relentless determination to score in every match at a club that gave him the opportunity to develop without pressure. By the time he left for Blackburn in 1992, he had proven himself as one of the most exciting young forwards in England, and the £3.6 million fee was a British record at the time. Southampton fans have always had a particular affection for the young Shearer — the boy from Newcastle who started it all on the south coast.
