David Moyes’ journey from solid defender to top-flight football manager is the stuff of legends. As a player, he made over 500 appearances for clubs including Celtic, Bristol City, Shrewsbury Town and Preston North End. But it was in management where he truly made his mark.
Moyes rose to prominence with Preston North End, where he earned the club promotion to the First Division, showcasing his eye for strategy and player development. He then took the reins at Everton in 2002, beginning an 11-year tenure that transformed the club’s fortunes. Under Moyes, Everton secured consistent top-half finishes, including a memorable 4th place in the Premier League during the 2004–05 season, earning European club football qualification.
After a challenging stint succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, Moyes demonstrated resilience, managing Real Sociedad in Spain and Sunderland, before reinventing himself at West Ham United. His leadership at West Ham brought stability and European qualification, cementing his place as one of English football’s most enduring and respected managers.
With over 1,000 games managed and multiple LMA Manager of the Year awards under his belt, Moyes has earned his place among the greats.
