His calm passing, command of the penalty area, one-on-one saves and ability to play almost as an extra defender changed how elite teams use their goalkeeper.

For Germany, Neuer built a legendary international career. He earned 124 caps, played at four FIFA World Cups and four European Championships, and was a central figure in Germany’s 2014 World Cup triumph in Brazil. His performances at that tournament were iconic, especially his fearless sweeping, decisive saves and leadership from the back. He won the Golden Glove as the tournament’s best goalkeeper and remains one of Germany’s most celebrated footballers.
