After leaving Real Madrid, Marcelo had a spell with Olympiacos before returning to Fluminense, the club where his journey began. His return brought another fairytale chapter, as he helped Fluminense win the Copa Libertadores, adding South American glory to a career already packed with European success. He later retired from professional football, leaving behind a legacy as a Real Madrid legend, Brazil international and one of football’s most loved modern icons.

For Brazil, Marcelo earned 58 senior caps and scored 6 goals. He represented his country at major tournaments including the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. He was part of the Brazil squad that won the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup, and he also won Olympic medals with Brazil, including bronze in 2008 and silver in 2012.
