Paul Gascoigne Tottenham Hotspur T-Shirt | Players Couture

Paul Gascoigne joined Tottenham Hotspur from Newcastle United in 1988 and gave White Hart Lane supporters three seasons of football that remains among the most extraordinary individual contribution any player has made to the club in the modern era. His FA Cup semi-final free-kick against Arsenal in 1991 — struck from 30 yards with the curve and power of a player who had trained that particular shot until it was automatic — and the tears that followed his booking that ended his final appearance in that tournament told the full story of a player for whom everything was lived at maximum intensity.

Gascoigne's Spurs years were the peak of his club career. His technical ability, his vision and his dribbling made him the most exciting player in English football, and his personality — the laugh, the pranks, the absolute refusal to exist at any speed other than flat out — made him impossible to ignore. England had not produced a talent like him in decades, and most who watched him closely suspected they might not again.
