Steve Largent Seattle Seahawks Men’s Hoodie – Number 80 Fan Merchandise

Celebrate the record-breaking career of Steve Largent with this Seattle Seahawks men’s hoodie from Players Couture. Designed for devoted Seattle supporters, wide receiver fanatics and admirers of precise, intelligent football, it provides a distinctive way to represent the player who became the first great hero in Seahawks history.

A colourful, poster-style Steve Largent graphic is positioned as a compact badge on the left chest, measuring approximately 10 cm high. The considered placement creates a clean and versatile appearance, combining player-inspired merchandise with comfortable everyday clothing. Steve Largent’s Tulsa Career

Steve Largent was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1954 and remained in his home city to attend the University of Tulsa. He did not fit the usual physical profile of a dominant professional receiver, but his college performances demonstrated the qualities that would define his career.

Largent was a precise route runner with excellent hands and an ability to maintain concentration through contact. He led the country with 14 receiving touchdowns in 1974 and repeated the achievement with another 14 in 1975.

His final Tulsa season produced 51 receptions for 1,000 yards. Across his college career, Largent caught 136 passes for 2,385 yards and 32 touchdowns while averaging 17.5 yards per reception.

He received two All-Missouri Valley Conference selections and was named a Second-Team All-American in 1975. His achievements were later recognised by both the University of Tulsa Hall of Fame and the College Football Hall of Fame.

From Houston Preseason to Seattle Pioneer

The Houston Oilers selected Largent in the fourth round of the 1976 draft. He spent the preseason attempting to earn a place on the roster but was considered likely to be released. Seattle stepped in and acquired him in exchange for a future eighth-round selection.

The Seahawks were entering their first season as an expansion team and needed players around whom they could establish an identity. Largent immediately became one of the most dependable members of the new squad, catching 54 passes for 705 yards and four touchdowns.

Seattle won only two games during that opening campaign, but Largent gave supporters a reason to believe that the franchise possessed a genuine star. The modest trade price became increasingly remarkable as he continued to set receiving records across the next 14 seasons.

How Largent Defeated Faster Defenders

Largent’s success was built around preparation, timing and precision. He studied the habits of opposing defensive backs and understood how to disguise the direction of a route. A small change in pace or body position could persuade a defender to move the wrong way, creating the separation required to complete a catch.

His connection with quarterback Jim Zorn became central to Seattle’s early offence. Largent trusted Zorn to release the ball before his route was complete, while the quarterback trusted that his receiver would arrive at the intended position.

Largent was also exceptional at tracking the ball in flight. He could adjust to passes delivered behind him, catch through contact and remain focused near the sideline. These qualities allowed him to succeed against opponents with greater height or straight-line speed.

He caught ten touchdown passes during his second season before beginning a run of four consecutive 1,000-yard campaigns from 1978 through 1981. His 1,237 receiving yards in 1979 led the league.

Helping Build a Playoff Team

Seattle gradually developed around players such as Largent, Zorn, Dave Krieg, Curt Warner, Kenny Easley and Jacob Green. The franchise reached the postseason for the first time after the 1983 regular season.

The Seahawks defeated Denver 31–7 in their first playoff game and then travelled to Miami. Seattle completed a memorable 27–20 victory to reach the AFC Championship Game, where the Los Angeles Raiders ended the run.

The Seahawks returned to the playoffs in 1984 after completing a 12–4 regular season. They defeated the Raiders in the wildcard round before losing a rematch with Miami. Although Seattle did not reach the Super Bowl, these campaigns established the team as a respected contender.

Largent remained its leading receiving figure. In 1985, he caught 79 passes for 1,287 yards and six touchdowns, earning First-Team All-Pro recognition. His success was particularly impressive because opponents entered each game knowing that number 80 would be Seattle’s most reliable passing target.

Consistency Across Fourteen Seasons

Largent recorded at least one reception in 177 consecutive games, establishing a record at the time. This streak reflected his ability to remain productive through injuries, tactical changes and different quarterback partnerships.

He produced ten seasons with at least 50 receptions and eight with more than 1,000 receiving yards. Those totals were professional records when he retired. Unlike receivers whose careers were defined by one brief statistical peak, Largent maintained a high standard across almost his entire time in Seattle.

One of his most memorable late-career moments came against Denver in 1988. Defensive back Mike Harden intercepted a pass and began returning it downfield. Largent chased him and delivered a powerful but controlled tackle, forcing a fumble and recovering the ball himself.

The play was especially memorable because an earlier Harden hit had injured Largent. His response came within the contest and demonstrated that a receiver known for skill and intelligence also possessed considerable toughness.

Division Champions and Retirement

Seattle won its first AFC West title during the 1988 season. Although the Seahawks were defeated in the playoffs, the division championship represented another major milestone for a franchise that had begun with Largent only 12 years earlier.

He played one final season in 1989 and retired with 819 receptions, 13,089 yards and 100 touchdown catches. Each total represented a career record at that time, and Largent became the first player in professional history to reach 100 receiving touchdowns.

His record also included 200 appearances and 197 starts, seven Pro Bowl selections and multiple All-Pro honours. He was chosen for the All-Decade Team of the 1980s and later selected for the league’s 100th Anniversary All-Time Team.

Largent did not win a championship or appear in a Super Bowl, but his role in Seattle’s history was fundamental. He helped take the Seahawks from their opening expansion season to the playoffs and a division title while establishing standards future Seattle receivers would attempt to follow.

A Permanent Number 80 Legacy

Seattle made Largent the first player inducted into the Seahawks Ring of Honor and the first to have his number retired. The team also established the Steve Largent Award, presented annually to the player who best demonstrates the spirit, dedication and integrity associated with the Seahawks.

In 1988, he received the league’s Man of the Year award for his performance and community contribution. Largent entered the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995 during his first year of eligibility, becoming the first player recognised primarily for a Seahawks career to receive the honour.

Following retirement from American football, Largent entered public service and represented Oklahoma in the United States House of Representatives. It was another significant chapter for a player who had built his career through discipline and preparation.

International Career and Global Recognition

American football did not normally provide receivers of Largent’s era with a separate senior international career or a regular national-team tournament. He therefore did not represent the United States in a World Cup-style sporting competition.

His career has nevertheless reached new generations of supporters as the Seahawks and American football have developed international followings. For UK fans exploring Seattle’s history, Largent remains one of the essential figures: a receiver whose records, integrity and connection with the franchise established its early identity.

Who Should Wear This Largent Hoodie?

This men’s hoodie is made for Seattle supporters, number 80 collectors, American football fanatics and anyone who regards Steve Largent as a favourite sporting hero. It makes a thoughtful gift for a friend, partner or family member who appreciates classic Seahawks history or exceptional wide receiver play.

Wear it while watching Sunday fixtures, following the postseason, travelling to a stadium or meeting friends at a sports bar. Its additional warmth makes it especially suitable for autumn and winter weekends, outdoor gatherings and late-night UK broadcasts. It can also be worn for university, casual days, travel, walks and relaxed social occasions.

Colours, Sizes and Styling

The Steve Largent hoodie is available in White, Black, Red, Navy and Grey, with adult sizes ranging from S to 3XL. Navy provides a natural Seattle-inspired choice, while Black creates a versatile darker foundation. White and Grey offer lighter sportswear alternatives, and Red supplies a bolder option.

Pair the hoodie with jeans and trainers for an easy everyday outfit, or combine it with cargo trousers or joggers. During colder conditions, layer it beneath a padded coat, gilet or waterproof jacket. The compact left-chest badge allows supporters to represent number 80 without overwhelming the rest of the clothing combination.

Produced After Your Order

Players Couture creates this hoodie on a made-to-order basis. No completed garment stock is produced in advance; each piece is prepared only after a customer places an order. This approach helps reduce unnecessary overproduction and means every hoodie begins with a particular supporter, friend or family member in mind.

An Independent Steve Largent Tribute

This Players Couture design is an independently created fan tribute inspired by admiration for Steve Largent, his Seattle career and his contribution to American football. It is not intended to mislead customers, imply an unauthorised partnership or infringe the rights of any player, team or organisation. The artwork is presented in good faith within the spirit of fan expression and fair usage.

If a relevant rights holder cannot see the positive intentions behind the design and contacts Players Couture with a concern, the matter will be reviewed and the product can be removed where appropriate. Respect for the featured player remains central to the idea.

Players Couture hopes to collaborate with players or their representatives in the future. Where an agreement becomes possible, the ambition is to provide royalties or direct an agreed portion of sales towards charitable causes supported by the player. Until then, this hoodie offers Seahawks fans a distinctive way to represent number 80 and celebrate the original Seattle receiving hero.
