Clyde Best made history as one of the first black players to feature prominently in English football during the 1970s. Born in Bermuda, he moved to England in his youth and quickly made a name for himself as a talented striker. Best is best known for his time at West Ham United, where he played for nearly a decade. His incredible skill and resilience in the face of adversity paved the way for future generations of black players in England.

During his time at West Ham (1968–1976), Best made 155 appearances and scored an impressive 37 goals. His powerful presence and strong performances were key to the club’s successes, making him a fan favourite. He was part of the squad that won the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1976, marking a high point in his illustrious career.

After his time at West Ham, Clyde Best moved on to play for several other clubs, including Toronto Blizzard and Bermuda Hogges. In total, he racked up 196 league appearances and scored 47 goals in club football.

International Glory
On the international stage, Best represented Bermuda with pride, making 14 appearances and scoring 5 goals for his country. His international career further highlighted his skill and determination, as he earned respect both at home and abroad.
