Sexton won 118 Ireland caps and retired as the country's record points scorer with 1,108. He toured with the Lions in 2013 and 2017, playing six Tests. Ireland's major victories during his era included a first win over New Zealand in 2016, a Grand Slam in 2018 and a Test series triumph in New Zealand in 2022. As captain he led the 2023 Grand Slam and helped Ireland reach number one in the world before his final tournament at the 2023 World Cup. He was World Rugby Player of the Year in 2018.
