Michael Schumacher made his Formula One debut at Spa in 1991 for Jordan before moving to Benetton, where he won back-to-back championships in 1994 and 1995. His move to Ferrari in 1996 began the project of rebuilding the team — four years of near-misses before five consecutive world titles between 2000 and 2004. That run included the most dominant single season in the sport's history (2002) and a points total and win percentage that rewrote everything that had seemed possible for a single driver.
After retiring in 2006 he returned with Mercedes in 2010 for three seasons, before a skiing accident in December 2013 caused serious head injuries. He has remained out of the public eye since. His legacy as the most successful Formula One driver of his era — and as the man whose records Lewis Hamilton spent a decade chasing — is assured.
