Tom Finney is widely regarded as one of the finest footballers England has ever produced. Known affectionately as The Preston Plumber, Finney spent his entire club career at Preston North End, a rarity that only adds to his legendary status. From his debut in 1946 to his retirement in 1960, he made over 400 appearances for the club, becoming a symbol of loyalty, class and consistency.

Finney was instrumental in Preston North End’s post-war success, helping the club finish as First Division runners-up in 1953 and 1958, and reach the FA Cup Final in 1954. Although a major trophy narrowly eluded him, his influence on English football was immense.

On the international stage, Finney earned 76 caps for England, scoring 30 goals and representing his country in three World Cups (1950, 1954 and 1958). Renowned for his pace, dribbling and sportsmanship, he finished runner-up for the Ballon d’Or in both 1956 and 1957, confirming his place among football’s elite.
