West Germany 1990 World Cup Hoodie | Players Couture Icon Frame Collection
West Germany 1990. The last great West German side before reunification. The World Cup won in Rome against Argentina with an Andreas Brehme penalty in the final. Beckenbauer on the touchline. Matthaus in midfield. Rudi Voller up front. One of the last tournaments before the world changed. This West Germany 1990 hoodie from Players Couture celebrates a football team and a tournament that sits at a particular moment in history. Fan apparel for supporters of German football and World Cup history who want to wear one of the great tournament stories of the modern era.
West Germany's 1990 World Cup squad was the farewell of a generation of players that had dominated international football for the better part of a decade. Lothar Matthaus was arguably the best player in the world at that tournament, playing with a technical and physical authority in central midfield that set the benchmark for the position. Franz Beckenbauer managed the side with the same authority he had captained it in 1974. The squad included Klinsmann, Voller, Andreas Brehme and a group of players who had been together through multiple major tournaments. They lost the 1986 World Cup final to Argentina. In 1990, on penalties after a goalless draw through ninety minutes, Brehme stepped up and scored the only goal of the final. West Germany were world champions for a fourth time. It was the last World Cup before Germany reunified. The following tournament would be played as simply Germany.
This hoodie carries the spirit of that final West Germany team in the Players Couture frame design. Find more from the football fanwear collection at Players Couture.
