Early Years: The Crafty Potter
Taylor grew up in Stoke-on-Trent and learned much of his craft under the guidance of the great Eric Bristow. In 1990 he reached the BDO World Championship final as a 125/1 outsider and beat Bristow, his mentor, 6-1 to win the first of his world titles. He won the BDO crown again in 1992.

The Breakthrough: Ruling the PDC
When the leading players formed what became the PDC, Taylor became its dominant force. He won the PDC world title eight years in a row from 1995 to 2002 and three more between 2004 and 2006. In 2002 he hit the first nine-dart finish shown live on UK television, against Chris Mason at the World Matchplay.

The Peak: Two Nine-Darters in One Night
In the 2010 Premier League final against James Wade, Taylor hit two nine-dart finishes in the same match, the first time it had happened in a professional match. That same year he finished runner-up for BBC Sports Personality of the Year, the first darts player to finish in the top two. He won further world titles in 2009, 2010 and 2013, and a total of 16 World Matchplay crowns.

Later Career: Farewell and a Surprise Return
Taylor retired after reaching the 2018 World Championship final, his 21st world final, where he lost to Rob Cross. He has since appeared at the World Seniors Championship, and now joins Lewis, with whom he won four World Cup of Darts titles, for one more tilt at a pairs title.
