Peter Schmeichel is the greatest goalkeeper in the history of the Premier League and one of the finest who ever played the game. His presence, his shot-stopping, his star jump saves and his leadership of Manchester United's defence across nine extraordinary seasons made him a central figure in the most successful period in the club's modern history. This Schmeichel hoodie from Players Couture is for fans of the Manchester United and Denmark legend who want to wear the name of a goalkeeper who defined the position at the highest level. Fan apparel built around one of football's all-time great goalkeepers.

Schmeichel was born in Gladsaxe, Denmark, in 1963 and came through Danish football before Alex Ferguson signed him for Manchester United in 1991 for just £505,000 — one of the great bargains in football transfer history. He spent nine seasons at Old Trafford and won five Premier League titles, three FA Cups, one League Cup and the Champions League in 1999. The 1999 treble was achieved in his final season at the club, with Schmeichel captaining United to victory in the Champions League Final against Bayern Munich — they were losing 1-0 in injury time and scored twice to win 2-1. He lifted the trophy in Barcelona as United captain in his final match for the club.

His style was commanding and often spectacular. His star jump — spreading his body to cover as much of the goal as possible — was a technique he pioneered and that has been widely imitated since. His distribution with his hands and his feet was exceptional for a goalkeeper of his era and his authority over his penalty area gave United's defenders the confidence to defend aggressively. For Denmark, he was a central figure in one of the great upsets in tournament history — Denmark winning Euro 1992 despite having only qualified as a late replacement for Yugoslavia.
